Peter Saville

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

peter-sevilles.jpg

Peter Saville to be next cover artist and curator of Arkitip No. 0049. Peter is best known for creating the seminal designs of Factory Records’ recording artists including Joy Division and New Order. ” He has often appropriated fine art images in his work while being careful to treat them respectfully. Introducing these images in this way to the masses he says is, “probably the most useful thing that I’ve done.”

Issue No. 0049 will be a virtual catalog of Peter’s work including essays from Saville’s colleagues throughout his career. It will also include two original prints from the designer, signed and numbered in an edition of 2000. The prints will be 12 x 12 inches on 100 lb. archival stock and will sit on top of the magazine inside a custom designed box carefully encasing the magazine and prints.

BUY NOTHING!

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I discovered Adbusters years back, and have been an avid reader since. I appreciate their effort to show us a different perspective on things. In this video, Adbuster’s editor in chief tries to explain to a doubtful reporter the concept of “Buy Nothing Day”, an Adbuster’s original concept. What you think?

Name: Susana Cardona

What do you currently do for a living?
I’m a certified hustla AKA I’m presently bartending/cocktailing/dog-walking/babysitting/odds & ending and attempting to create more time to do the things that I love.

Where are you originally from?
I grew up partially in Southern California and then transplanted myself to the Bronx in my later teen years. I’m a true
bi-coastal baby.

How would you describe your style?
funky-feminine, thoughtful, comfy yet well-thought-out.

What inspires you in your daily pursuit of Life?
My womanhood. The fact that I know millions of women before me have made shit happen and knowing that set-backs and boundaries are only a test of endurance and will.

How do you feel about the environment?
Our environment needs the respect, love, and nurturing that it has afforded us for millions of years. The condition that it’s currently in is simply due to laziness and I feel as though we owe both our earth/home and our loved ones the time and investment its going to take to repair what we have done.

Do you prefer shopping online or in person?
If we are talking about clothing, I prefer to shop in person. Size, fit, and feel are all important components of a good wardrobe. If I am shopping for gadgets, books, music, services, etc, I like to shop online. Its faster and way easier.

Do you believe in extraterrestrials?
I would never be so vain as to believe that humans are the ONLY life to inhibit this enormous universe. Its too damn big for it to be just us.

What books are you currently reading?

All About Love by Bell Hooks, Small Business for Dumbies, and attempting to re-read The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon.

What’s your favorite sound of nature?
heavy rain… (especially if its falling on a tin roof)

What does success mean to you?

Success is waking up ever day to do the things you love and are passionate about and being surrounding by people you love, respect, and admire. Success is having virtue and integrity in the things that you do and the relationships that you cultivate. Success is not going to bed until you feel you’ve given it your all. Lastly, success is being at peace with who you are and what you stand for.

Early in the week, I had the fortune to come across my fellow statesmen from DailyDoseRx. What was supposed to be a brief hello, turned into an hour-long meeting of the minds. Hopefully, the beginning of a healthy and prosperous relationship.
