Name: Chris Mueller

What do you currently do for a living?
I am a Mental Environmentalist for a creative business consultancy called Parallal MVMT, I am Director of Development for The Starring Group, working to build a new Multimedia Incubation Studio in East Oakland, CA, to teach young people media literacy and production skills, and finally, I’m the Principal and Creative Director for C+ Jewelry, who’s introductory collection is entirely inspired by your favorite toy bricks and blocks.

Where are you originally from?
I was born in Oakland, CA and raised in El Cerrito, CA. But I think of an origin in a larger, more spiritual context, which would connect me to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Boston, Atlanta, Florida, Italy, Germany, and Africa.

How would you describe your style?

Simple. Clean. Fresh. And at times, Fly.

What inspires you in your daily pursuit of Life?

I’m inspired by the chance to paint a masterpiece everyday that I wake up, to continually refine self, to maximize potential, to cultivate growth, love and respect, and to push our communities forward.

How do you feel about the environment?
It desperately needs our immediate care.

Do you prefer shopping online or in person?
I prefer a combination of both. Scout online, try it on in person.

Do you believe in extraterrestrials?
The universe is too vast for there not to be life forms outside of Earth. It would be ethnocentric and egotistical to believe otherwise.

What books are you currently reading?

Don’t Think of an Elephant by George Lakoff, Moral Politics by George Lakoff, All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks, 48 Laws of Power, Words That Work by Frank Luntz & Ways of Seeing by Jon Berger

What’s your favorite sound of nature?

Rain falling through trees.

What does success mean to you?
Social entrepreneurship is defined as the use of business principles to create, organize, and manage ventures to ignite social change. I consider myself a social entrepreneur, which means that my success is measured in terms of the impact I have on society, and how well I cultivate positive growth in the world community around me.

If that change is going to occur, it will happen by enhancing the way we see the world, to see beyond ideological boundaries, and to see the connectivity we all share as humans. That is the essence of C+ (see plus). Perception is Reality. It all depends on how you see it.

Generation O

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

generation-o.jpg

The outpouring of euphoria around the globe following Barack Obama’s victory has raised expectations. Like the president-elect, we (and you) have been calling for change for eight long years. On November 4th we got it, a genuine, bloodless revolution. The question now is: will it amount to anything?

Obama’s campaign benefited hugely from enlisting young voters in the cause. Obama told them that the post-baby boomer era had begun. He challenged their cynicism and spoke to them through their own media: through Facebook, through Twitter. They overwhelmingly gave him their support at the polls. And they won. They won big. Maybe now Generation O will finally drop the hipster pose and become a force to change the world.

For the next issue of Adbusters we want your thoughts and opinions on whether you think Generation O has revolutionary potential. What are the specific ways that Generation O could change the world? Will they create a green economy? Will they figure out how to deal with climate change? Will they rethink capitalism and the corporation? Send your stories, ideas and epiphanies to: editor@adbusters.org
